"The savings realized on the CAL Boiler Automation Project is 14 tons per week from an initial usage of 110 tons. This means that the percentage saving works out to 12.7%"

"Coal consumption improved from 305 tons to 269 tons per month – a Rand saving of R 28,620 at 2007 prices in the Western Cape.

Previously the Boiler fired continuously at its maximum possible output with a cyclical drop in steam pressure. Output has now improved to the point where there is a regular cycle of demodulation – and steam pressure remains within a narrow band, without any special level of Operator intervention.

Firing continuously at its maximum, the Boiler required to be cleaned every two months, due to tube – end blockages and dust drop-out in tubes. We have now carried out our first fire-side cleaning after six months of continuous service – there was no sign of tube-end "birds-nesting" at this time.

We previously had an ongoing problem with dark Stack emissions. Since CAL's conversion of the Control System, this has cleared most pleasingly.

We previously had an ongoing problem with over-heating, burning and breakage of Stoker Links and the Mat itself, where a rebuild was needed in 2 years. Since the conversion, the Mat has returned to its correct, dark colour and link-breakages are now rare.

The average steam generated per kg of coal as from 1 July 2006 to end June 2007 (one year duration)  8,505527 kg steam per kg of coal burnt.

The average steam generated per kg of coal started July 2007 to end September 2007 (running for 3 months after Upgrade):
9,820596 kg steam per kg of coal burnt.

This results in an increase in steam generated of 15,46% per kg of coal, which will result in us paying back our investment in 5 to 6 months. You promised us a saving of about 10%, which we obtained easily.

Thanks for your recommendation to do the Upgrade, it is highly appreciated (although we struggled so long to convince the bosses about the money to do the mod!!!).
